The Pink Energy held its inaugural conference on 23rd May 2019 at the Movenpick Hotel. The Kengen women are looking beyond possibilities under the wise leadership of their CEO & Managing Director Mrs. Rebecca Miano who is the founding Patron of Pink Energy.

The Pink Energy Movement is anchored on personal development and empowerment, creating a conducive work environment and gender awareness. The conference had several keynote speakers such as the Cabinet Secretary Prof. Margaret Kobia and Kengen’s MD Mrs. Rebecca Miano. There were also two panels which discussed how to “empower, equip and encourage women with real-life experience to promote pursuance of dreams with passion.” Our CEO, Dr. Patricia Murugami was a member of one of the panels which engaged in authentic discussions together with other speakers such as Winnie Pertet and Dorcas Kombo on how women can rise.

The conference was an opportunity for women at Kengen and the energy sector to network and build productive professional relationships which will benefit both the individuals and the corporates.

During her speech, Mrs. Miano noted that while most organizations had attempted to positively change the work environment, systematic barriers affecting the advancement of women still existed. She noted that women were critical players in the success of businesses, “Companies with women in leadership outperform their competitors, with a McKinsey study finding a 55% increase in average company earnings before interest and tax.”

Professor Margaret Kobia, who presided over the event commended Kengen for its deliberate effort towards strengthening women's capacity to fully participate in the energy sector through the Pink Energy initiative.

“Women have the power to change the society so that both men and women can have equal opportunities across the board, we do not want equality with men (we are distinctly different) all we want is equal opportunities with men. “ The Cabinet Secretary said.
